Challenge: Expanding the Vivalytic System for Multi-Slot Use
In this project, I was tasked with the development of a vital accessory for Vivalytic, a molecular diagnostics system designed for rapid point-of-care testing. The Vivalytic platform, while highly effective as a standalone solution for single-slot use, was not originally designed to handle multi-slot setups. My goal was to design a flexible upscaling solution that would enable the system to operate in multi-slot configurations, thus expanding its functionality in laboratory environments.

Approach: Creating a Scalable, Multi-Slot Solution
The challenge involved both hardware development and software adjustments to meet the unique requirements of the Vivalytic system. The analyzer’s thermal and vibration-sensitive measurement processes required careful consideration during the design process. To ensure the system’s performance and reliability, the development underwent multiple iterations and stress tests.
We started with basic prototypes, initially constructing simple wood forms, followed by 3D milled MDF and 3D-printed modules for testing. These early versions allowed us to identify potential issues and refine the design before moving to more advanced materials. Ultimately, the final series model was produced using plastics-aluminum compound 3D printing, ensuring durability and precision.
Collaboration: Working in a Multidisciplinary Agile Team
As the industrial design lead, I worked closely with the UI design and engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of the new accessory into the existing Vivalytic system. Our collaborative efforts ensured that the product was not only functional but also intuitive and user-friendly for laboratory technicians.
Impact: Enhanced Versatility and Value for Molecular Diagnostics
The resulting accessory allows the Vivalytic analyzer to be used in multi-slot setups, making it a more versatile and valuable tool for molecular diagnostics. This innovation enhances the system’s scalability and its potential for broader use in clinical laboratories, ultimately contributing to more efficient and accessible diagnostic solutions.
